Who can judge a person’s reactions during stress situations? Wendy Williams awoke with her wrists bound tightly. Rough hemp chafed her tender skin. She felt dizzy and lost in the dark, hardly aware of the pain in her outstretched arms at first. They were tied to the ends of a long piece of pipe and pulled over her head.
Her legs were bound to another length of pipe, spread so wide that it pained her crotch, pulled so high that Wendy’s toes barely touched the floor. She swelled her chest and strained to scream, but her soft lips had been sealed by sticky tape. The young girl could only make a terrified gurgling noise.
She heard two boys laugh, and she felt the hands of one working to remove a canvas bag tied over her head. A narrow beam of blinding light shined down from above. Around the sharp-edged circle of brilliance at her feet, there was only darkness and shadow.
