Inside the posh offices of Cadwin, Mayor and Prince, Gregg Aldrich leaned casually against his boss’s desk, arms crossed in front of him, listening to another roundabout lecture by his boss, Prank Prince. Prince stood in front of a wall-sized map of the greater San Francisco area, and with a pointer indicated a section of undeveloped land to the south and east of the spreading city.
“Here’s our trouble spot,” he was telling Aldrich. “We’ve managed to buy up all the land in this sector. Except, that is, for these thirty acres right in the middle, B-29.”
Aldrich knew all about B-29. Since coming to work for Prince two years before, he’d heard little else but the man’s complaints about the one… holdout standing in the way between him and the multi-million dollar enterprise he was going to call Sunnyside Acres, Fifty Minutes from the City on the Sunny Side of the Hills. Aldrich knew that he had been after the owners for years to sell, offered them all kinds of money for the land. But the people had steadfastly refused.
