This story deals with a sexual dilemma that confronts all of us, in one form or another. We cannot pass judgment on an individual’s solution. We can only look at them with an open mind, seeing how some members of our society face the problem.
Tricia woke up naked, in a strange bed. She lay there for several seconds, blinking at the ceiling, wondering where she was. Then she became aware of a large, hairy male body next to her. And everything came back to her slowly, like some weird dream, or almost everything. She’d had quite a bit to drink, she remembered, and she couldn’t recall all the details.
There had been a get-acquainted party for all the new teachers. It had been at Mr. Fletcher’s house, and since he was the vice-principal and had organized the whole thing, she couldn’t refuse. Tricia hated parties because she was so shy, and would have gotten out of this one if she could. But it wasn’t possible. She’d shown up all alone, feeling miserable.
After a couple of quick drinks, though, she hadn’t minded all the small talk. She’d chatted with Mr. Fletcher and his homely and extremely boring wife, and later she’d gotten to know a few of the other new teachers. During the first week of school Tricia had barely had time to say hello to anyone, and this was the first opportunity she’d had to talk to Al Banks or Clay Rogers, the two teachers closest her own age.
Another young teacher, but one who had been at the school several years already, attracted her attention early on. He moved through the knots of people easily, joking with the men and teasing all the women. But he ignored her completely, as if young and pretty teachers were beneath his consideration. It wasn’t until the party was almost over, and Tricia had drunk one cocktail too many, that he approached her.
