The fictional characters in HER EYE ON THE FAMILY are desperate people, like their real-life counterparts. Bored, frustrated, unhappy, they seize the first opportunity for release. In their need, they cast aside morals and scruples, determined to live only for the moment, to grab at pleasure before it is taken away.
HER EYE ON THE FAMILY is a novel about the quiet desperation in so many of us-and the extremes to which it may drive us.
Kim strolled into the woods, hoping for a long walk alone. She could gather the firewood on her way back. Right now she needed to get her temper under control. She was so mad at Uncle Gus for calling her a bookworm. What was wrong with studying hard and getting good grades?
Wrapped up in her thoughts, Kim walked for several minutes before she heard voices. There was a man’s voice and a woman’s, coming from somewhere off the trail. The woman was giggling, and her voice sounded familiar. Kim decided to investigate.
She crept through the bushes till she came to the edge of a small clearing. Peeking out from her hiding place, she saw her Aunt Ginny and Uncle Pete making out. Now, that was interesting. It was the one adult activity that could get her attention.
