Tanya Taylor threw herself onto her bed with a dramatic crash and moaned, “I just can’t do it! It’s too boring!”
It was that time of year again, time for the annual family reunion, and Tanya had done everything she could think of to get out of it. The reunion always took place up in the mountains, at a campground, where the grownups spent the whole three days talking and drinking beer, while the kids went out of their minds with boredom.
Tanya had begged and pleaded with her parents to let her stay home, but they refused. She said the reunion was dull, that she hated her cousins, and they hated her. Nothing worked. Her mother and father said she was too young to stay in Los Angeles by herself and that it would look funny if she was the only kid missing from the reunion.
So, just as summer vacation was starting, just as she and her friends were planning all kinds of fun at the beach, she had to go off to this stupid family reunion. It was especially maddening this year, because she’d just started dating, and there was a guy named Bruce that she really had the hots for and who wanted to take her out.
