It had taken Gina Rogers all evening to get up the nerve to say it.
“Mike,” she asked nervously, “would you like to come in for a drink?”
They’d just finished one of their typical dates, dinner and a movie, but for the first time Gina wasn’t saying goodnight on her front porch. Tonight she wanted more than just a kiss. Now that she’d gotten the courage to ask him in, she hoped Mike wouldn’t turn her down.
Mike slowly broke into a grin.
“Honey,” he said, “I thought you’d never ask. Sure, I’d loved to come in for a drink.”
Gina breathed a sigh of relief and ushered him into her small but neat suburban house. She’d dated Mike half a dozen times now, and she really liked him a lot, but she was always cautious with men. Her divorce had made her afraid of being hurt again.
“Vodka? Scotch?” she asked.
“Scotch on the rocks would be great,” Mike said, settling his six-foot frame on the couch.
Gina made herself a vodka and tonic and brought the drinks over to the couch. She hoped Mike wouldn’t notice that her hands were trembling. She felt so nervous. After all, she hadn’t been with a man in almost a year.
