One need only tune in the TV set during prime time any night of the week to witness a seemingly endless barrage of violence in the form of “entertainment”. Whether it be cops pursuing robbers, or heroes gunning down villains, the pattern is invariably the same. The fact that no one is really hurt is also common to them all.

But real violence does exist, and real people, good and bad, are maimed and killed daily in the streets and homes of America.

What Susan Maynard, the young woman in this story, fails to realize could very well be a lesson for us all as we sit in our living rooms and soak up TV’s phony violence. There are criminals in our midst, people who would steal or rape or kill at the slightest provocation, people who have no respect for human life.

Susan Maynard’s degradation at the hands of people like these may have been avoided had she had more respect for this dangerous element in our society, and had she heeded the warning signs. But her innocence, and possibly the false picture she-and all of us-receive through the entertainment media, made her reckless in her dealings with those who follow no code of morality.

TERRA TORTURE-a serious novel of blind lust and depravity in which can be found an important message.

Susan Maynard stepped off the bus at noon, the August heat crushed the voluptuous woman, making her gasp. She was used to her air-conditioned office and high-rise apartment in Omaha.

Out here, in Bedford, there was only the occasional breeze blowing along the distant ranges, wheezing across the flat, dusty, nearly deserted Nebraska sandhills town.

She should have driven her car down from Omaha, she thought as she tried to ignore the big, hairy stud straddling the motorcycle by the curb.

He was a big bastard, with white even teeth that glistened as he leered at her. She gave her hips an extra swivel as she passed. He made some remark, which she smiled at but ignored.

He parked the bike and followed her down the street, toward the hotel at the end of the block. “Help with the baggage?”
