Linda Caffy looked up from her papers scattered over the table and saw three young men standing in the doorway of the Venice Pavilion. Dressed in faded Levi’s, leather jackets and boots, they stood silently some fifteen feet in front of her, staring cockily down at her.
Hoods, she thought to herself, sighing audibly and picking up the report to the city finance committee again. It had been a long day. She didn’t need the kind of aggravation these three would probably give her. Maybe if I ignore them they’ll go away, she thought.
“Hey, baby, ain’t none of your fuckin’ business,” the first biker answered back, hooking his thumbs in his front pockets while rubbing his fingers up and down the sides of his fly.
Lindy had become used to this kind of obscenity flung at her. When she took this part-time job with the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, Lindy had been warned about the kind of people she’d be dealing with in Venice.
