FAMILY DOG is the story of one family in one neighborhood in one city, Anyway, U.S.A. The Thompsons, Joe and Marcia, their children, Ray and Nancy. And some of the family friends. It is startling as a mirror of a way of life behind closed doors. No facade. No regrets. Indeed, to them it is the norm.

And outside their lives go on. Business and its daily conflicts. School and its trials and triumphs. Pleasure and its unforeseen accidents and moments of heroism.

The norm . . . For the Thompsons, yes. And how many other families like them?

A novel of fiction for entertainment. A page of our restless society as food for serious thought.

It was shortly after eight o’clock in the evening when Ray Thompson arrived home from his summer job as a soda jerk at a nearby drugstore. He liked his new job because he enjoyed meeting the public, but he was also excited about the possibility of fucking the sexy-looking older girl working the same hours behind the counter.

Most thoughts of the drugstore and the very attractive female soda jerk slipped from Ray’s mind when he entered the living room. His sister Nancy was sitting on a couch watching television.

“Hi, Ray! Are you going to just stand there and stare?”

“I’ve been working, you know. I could be a little too tired, I mean. Mom and Dad aren’t home?”

“They went to a movie,” Nancy said. “I told them that I wanted to watch a program on the tube, but I mostly wanted to have a little talk with you. Turn the set off, will you? It’s just a damn re-run.”

Ray did as Nancy asked, then perched his butt on the wide arm of an easy chair across the way from her and the couch.
